Ask HN: Since when can I completely “live” in a browser?

2 pointsby recvonlineover 3 years ago
I am using Linux for a while now again (after ~10 years of macOS) and I barely need more than a terminal and a browser. All applications I might need (like drawing, spreadsheets, chats, writing etc.) I can find as a browser application.
It feels weird to "run Linux", when all I need Linux for is the CLI and the rest is basically a VM disguised as a browser running all my applications.
Am I the only one who feels like that?

Your revelation is something the inventor of Chromebooks tried to capitalize on ten years ago (with moderate success).

I like having full control over my data so I choose to use local applications where I can. Fortunately there is a lot of good stuff for Linux out there so I don't need to reach for online tools.
But I see your point, it's a bit funny :) Compared to doing the same on Windows this gives me an image of a very calm OS
