Hey HN, my internet name is SuboptimalEng[0], and this is Orbital - an open-source video file browser that allows you to quickly search, filter, and preview all video (and image) files in a specified root directory.
In late 2020, I quit my engineering job to go full-time on YouTube[1]. A few months into my journey, I realized that I accumulated way too many media files (images, memes, videos, screen recordings, stock footage, etc.) to search through efficiently.
I did a quick google search for software solutions, but I couldn't find any that fit my needs. After many internal monologues (where I promoted myself from side-character #2 in arc 3 to the main protagonist), I finally committed to building Orbital. (And yes, it's a desktop app built with Electron.)
Would love to get some feedback!
[0] https://www.twitter.com/SuboptimalEng
[1] https://www.youtube.com/SuboptimalEng
