Omega used to sell load bolts that were basically a hollow bolt with a strain gauge inside. Sort of like this:

I like it. It sounds very silly, very IoT-all-the-things, but I've without question seen situations where they'd be worth the investment and then some.<p>Could pose some organisations an interesting dilemma, where to draw the line for the extra expense.
