The fact that the discussion revolves around making DST permanent shows the core problem in politics. There is no effort, from either side, to simplify things. They both operate on the baffle them with bullshit principal.<p>We should be saying to do away with DST entirely and use standard time year round. There is an actual benefit in timezones, but there importation guy kind of wacky. Then someone decided we needed "more time" and determined the simplest way was to simplely tell people to shift their clocks twice a year, because... there simply wasn't enough confusion.<p>Here we are, instead of saying lets just simplify things, because electric lights are thing now days, the proposal it to add another layer because that always fixes things.
