Google Fiber offering me 2 Gbps – but what they don't tell you

The bottleneck is your WiFi, so most folks will shell out the extra $30 per month and not see a difference unless you're using a hardwired connection. I'm not sure what the best retail WiFi speed is right now, but it is nowhere near 1 Gig, never mind 2 Gig.

That goes for any so-called gig speed service. Use a third-party wifi router if you can. I can get about 500 Mbit/sec downstream on my laptop from a fairly new LinkSys three-antenna model. That's pretty good, but not literally gig speed. Otherwise I use wired networking everywhere I can.
