I always find it ironic that we started with "E pluribus unum" ("Out of many, one") a uniting statement and added "In God We Trust" a dividing one.<p>Same goes for the Pledge of Allegiance "Under God" added just before "indivisible".<p>Both being formalized in the 1950's.
