Ask HN: How to Slow Things Down?

6 pointsby psikomanjakover 3 years ago
Do you feel like time is flying fast for you? I do a lot of stuff through the day, atleast I think so but at the end when I think I see I have achieved nothing. How to slow things down?

Pay more attention. Have you ever driven down an unfamiliar road and it feels really long, while the drive back feels much shorter?
Something like 15 min meditation can feel agonizingly long too. I'd recommend doing it just so you feel that something is going slowly.
Social media (including HN) has the opposite effect. It puts you into flow, which sucks you through time.

This is a function of aging, although the cause is still debated.
One suggestion would be to do fewer things, or find a job with fewer tasks. Downside is that if you don’t like that, time will probably seem slower and you’ll be looking at the clock all day.

On a good day, I'll write down what I'd like to accomplish the next day before going to bed.
With practice this estimation exercise gets pretty accurate and helps with "busy-body" anxiety.

After I quit my job 4 month ago
One of the changes I've noticed it's that time has slowed down.
As a result, I became less anxious, I sleep well. There have also been many good changes.
I know this solution will not work for everyone.
