The Framework laptop has been available for a little while now (5 batches shipped) so I'm wondering what people's experiences are with it. I'm considering getting one in the future but haven't seen many follow-up reviews or anecdotes.
Does it still seem to be performing as well as it did when you first received it? Has the durability held up to your expectations? Have you replaced any components?
I ordered the DIY edition with no additional hardware aside from the IO modules. I received the laptop in early October. That's a terribly long time to remark on its durability--I'll say it has held up just fine so far and I haven't noticed any change in performance since I got it. As for replacing components, I transplanted the hardware from my work-issued laptop into the Framework, and everything booted and worked.
The Framework is a perfectly serviceable laptop. There is plenty of positive information circulating on the laptop so I won't reiterate those. There are a few flaws I'll note so you can make an informed decision:
1. The battery life is not impressive. I typically get about 5 hrs, so usable, but not impressive.
2. The screen is glossy, noticeably so when working in a car or outside.
3. The hinge can move just from the weight of the screen. For example, if you had the screen open 90 degrees, and bent over while holding the laptop, the screen would open farther.
