“Obliterating the Natural World”? Umm…that’s a bit of an overreach, isn’t it? Sounds like something only Meldor from Planet Zort could do. But I don’t want to read much science fiction nowadays.
“The radical (but common) right-wing belief that property rights trump all other rights leads inexorably to the destruction of natural wonders.”
Not just right-wing property rights advocates destroy natural wonders. Cf. The pollution legacy of the Soviet Union.
https://www.gerdludwig.com/stories/soviet-pollution-a-lethal...
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/the-grim-pollution-pictur_b_9...
You can track real-time CCP Chinese air pollution from the comfort of your home, too.
Industrial and commercial developments do “inexorably” impact the physical environment. They also inexorably improve the lives of billions of people. If managed well, whether by the invisible hand or strict regulation or something in between, the environment impacts are minimized while achieving the social benefits.
Do you want that to happen? Become an engineer or a government regulator and make it happen. Don’t just write (or read) a hack article…that does little to nothing. Especially one that sells one particular political solution to a complex systems problem.
