Ask HN: Would you buy educational courses for your kid?

2 pointsby blingojamesover 3 years ago
Hi HN, I have an idea regarding educational courses over the computer for kids and wanted to check if it's really a problem, would you personally buy those for your kid? (Assuming quality is sufficient) and how much money would you invest in a year?

Probably not, unless I was home schooling, or if there was a topic my child had a high degree of interest in that either wasn’t being covered in school or wasn’t being deeply covered. Or a area that they are struggling in.<p>A lot of kids don’t enjoy course work, getting them to do more (unless they showed a high interest in it), is probably not a battle most parents are going to want, let alone pay extra for. Of course we all want resources if our kids are struggling with a subject.

Depends on what the course is and the content. Is it just a video? Then, no. Is it self-paced? No, he&#x27;s not going to progress on his own.

Maybe probably not. I bought Teach your monster to read but I won’t Buy YouTube videos.
