Hey HN!<p>The race to $50k/year is on :) My wife wants to train my son to get a High School diploma and I want to get him either working for himself or a company making $50k/year. He get's to be independent when he achieves either one of these :) I am pulling for the $50K/yr and figured I would engage the giant amazing HN collective brain for this challenge :)<p>My 14 year old son loves coding, making Roblox games, creating Youtube movies and I said let's set a goal, when you get to $50k/year you can move out/be independent/don't have to homeschool anymore! He said LET'S DO THIS DAD!!! :P LOL!<p>HN Dads: If you are interested I would love to partner up to help ALL our kids get to $50k/yr and be independent, I know we can do this! This is just an idea right now and I will be stumbling my way through it but would love your thoughts, ideas, help?<p>I have started teaching him about First Principles and also reached out to Roblox asking them what HARD problems they are trying to solve as well as any missing GAPS in talent/content/etc.<p>Interested in joining up and helping kids everywhere? How about you start small. Work with you kid to turn 5-10k into 10-15k with a 5k profit. I know that’s pretty doable in your spare time. There is no need to go for a median household income while still in school. I can think of 10 different ways a kid can earn 5k but I can’t easily think of any to hit 50 without starting at 5 and then learning and scaling if successful.
Note that relying on your side project for income can make it less exciting. Don't push yourself too far, any money you make is an achievement. My first $5 was more exciting than my first $500. I tried pushing my side project as hard as I could for a few months and made a “ton”, but lost interest and now hardly touch it.<p>A few tips:
Don’t wait for perfection before launching, but don’t ship something incomplete either.<p>Even though you’re starting small, the project should be scalable and it should be easy to add features down the line. (So you don’t have to rewrite the whole system)<p>Listen to user feedback, don’t have to implement all of it, but it is extremely important. At least respond to requests even if you aren’t going to implement them. Be nice even though they sometimes aren’t.<p>You don’t need to be the biggest to make decent money. Even if you pick a market that’s already competitive, there is still a big enough slice of the pie for you.<p>Lastly, keep us updated on your progress. Wish you luck!
