Fascinating article - in my opinion, this is the real result of "find yourself" education and encouraging expressive individuality.
Instead of becoming a means of expressing oneself, these categories of identity and experience have made their way into institutions and become the primary lens through which institutions evaluate people -- increasingly more so than actual objective standards.
The result is that by tearing down objectivism in favor of self-expression, we've actually lost both.
The articles premise seems well supported by the facts.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-electio...
Stories are powerful avenues because they involve human emotion.
Unfortunately, human nature is dark in its essence, conditioned to lie, so the truth will always be tinted.
Recommended book: Everybody Lies, by Google data scientist
