This is a very interesting topic, but very weakly explored by the article.<p>Ok, so there are anecdotes of bored retirees who would prefer to be working. I completely get that. Both my grandfathers worked well into their 70s (one is still working) for that reason. My other grandfather would probably take work if he could find something flexible and part time in his field (does mostly volunteering now).<p>But why aren’t these other ones working?<p>There is a bit on how benefits have financed it, but the number that remain on benefits in no way accounts for all the missing people.<p>The article is filled with interesting ideas that it should explore further, but immediately moves on.<p>It concludes with a proposal for stigmatizing being idle.
