NFTs can be used for so many different things that you're inviting history to make a fool of you if you dismiss them. Even if I were sure that most current uses of NFTs were bogus, I'd never dare to say that all possible uses were.

You can say that about anything, it begs the question of what to prioritize.

> NFTs can be used for so many different things that you're inviting history to make a fool of you if you dismiss them. [0]
Yes. One of those uses is domain names on the blockchain, which that is the only valid use-case for NFTs, just like ENS.
> Even if I were sure that most current uses of NFTs were bogus, I'd never dare to say that all possible uses were.
The most important word in this sentence is 'current'. Currently, 90% of these NFTs projects are useless JPEGs, but 10% of these NFT projects have a use-case and ENS is probably part of that 10%.
[0] https://ens.domains

When people speak of them dismissively, is it really the tech that they are dismissing or the investment value of various NFT art/cards?

Imo besides the point. I think for most it's not about the tech but the overhyped bubble ponzi sauce that's poured on top of that interesting tech.
I would love to see more useful applications, but so far it has been sparse.

True, although people need to make green NFTs more mainstream if they want NFTs to be more supported.

Maybe I'm getting old and cranky, but I feel like I'm getting the hard sell with NFTs, cryptocoins, and the metaverse. I wish we could go a month without hearing about the wonderful revolution these technologies are going to bring us.

Just like cryptos, the idea is good, the use we're doing so far is bogus.

nowadays every crappy technology is always defended with this argument. I'm sorry, but one should not stop calling shitty things shit.

It is just as foolish NOT to dismiss ideas that can waste your time.

If at least NFTs gave you copyright...

This is a truism, a platitude that can be said about anything. Can even be used to argue the opposite - history could make a fool of PG's tweet. I'd like to hear technical or social arguments for what makes this "thing" called NFTs useful or special, not "just wait and see" arguments. Almost lost my decade long respect for PG in a single tweet.
