As you may have heard, Google My Maps [0] has recently shut down their Android mobile app. A subset of the functionality has been integrated into the Google Maps app, but it isn't possible anymore to edit points and lines on mobile.
I used Google My Maps as a way to create and share geological points (POI, markers, pins) on my travel blog:
- When traveling, I could create points, even while offline, in My Maps
- An embed My Maps iframe would be dispayed on my website, and friends and family could follow me around
Is there any alternative for Android (offline, syncable, iframe-able) that can do this, or any other solution to achieve the above?
[0]https://www.google.com/maps/about/mymaps/
I am not closely familiar with those features, but I can suggest something to explore. Many mapping applications are now built atop https://www.openstreetmap.org including Organic Maps and OSMand both found on F-droid.org. OSM.org can be edited directly through their website and with companion apps called StreetComplete or Vespucci. Other FOSS apps out there may have the specific features you desire, and if not, can be built if you suggest them to the projects. I do use bookmarks in Organic maps arranged in different lists which can be exported to KML file. I have not attempted to import them to another application.
