This is a bit of an oversimplification (read in books from Erich Fromm I think), but depression, when caused by external factors, occurs when one can neither evade the cause of stress, nor find a way to address it constructively. Depression is more likely if you're stuck with what is causing you distress. This seems to be the case of the person writing this article.<p>So if they feel they can't do anything to oppose Putin meaningfully, they shouldn't just stay there and become miserable, but maybe should consider getting away from Russia altogether. Other countries have their issues too, and emigrating is a bitter solution, but it's better than staying and paying taxes to such a regime.<p>Or maybe Russia can have its own Euromaidan moment and get rid of Putin, although this would be bloody. Other dictators have fallen though, and they all seemed to have an unbreakable grip on power, with their brutal secret police and decades of rule, until they took a plane and fled in the night.
