The Steamboat Inventors: The First Generation

Side note, but this is a really great technology history site. I have already read the blog-style articles which created it, but I also ordered his book “The Switch,” and look forward to reading it this summer.

I love this. The earliest American inventors! Amazing how difficult it was to get steam powered locomotion—-especially when they had to reinvent everything themselves without the skills or the supplies.

A good older book on this subject is “Inventors in Action” by James Thomas Flexner.
