Ask HN: How do people follow blogs/personal websites nowadays?

4 pointsby samh748about 3 years ago
I'm currently working on my own personal website/blog, and wanted to get a feel for where everyone's eyes are nowadays.
How do you follow blogs & personal websites? Via RSS? Twitter? Newsletters? Bookmarks? What if someone doesn't use RSS/Twitter/Newsletters?
How often do you visit the sites themselves and poke around (ie to discover things that aren't shared on social media or don't show up on RSS)?

RSS is preferred, followed by an email newsletter.
Anything else and I'll visit the site manually if and when I remember. Requiring me to follow a blog's content announcements on a platform I don't use is a recipe for losing me as a potential fan. So you either need to be everywhere or nowhere. There's not much middle ground there.
When setting up a blog, an RSS feed should be built into most options or easy to add.

Either the 5-6 blogs I remember on top of my head that I visit like once a year and check all the new stuff they posted. Or when I stumble upon a blog when googling something.

Just follow the content creators on Twitter and they’ll notify when they post something

None of the above. I go to them and click (either paste URL or google it).
