If this "open" forces you to use only those grotesquely and absurdely complex google(blink/geeko) or apple(webkit) based browsers, this is an excruciating toxic "open" (worldwide scam à la microsoft).
"open" is not enough anymore, the world needs lean and simple, but enough to do a reasonably good job, "open". For instance, restore noscript/basic (x)html compatibility at least for critical web sites.
