Ask HN: Has Gmail's “Important” feature gotten substantially worse?

4 pointsby iameliabout 3 years ago
Today I received an email with no subject line and no body from an email address I've never once interacted with in my life. This was marked "Important according to Google magic." Meanwhile last week an email addressed specifically to me from the CEO of the company was down in the "Everything Else" category.
Anyone else seeing this?

More than worse, for me it has been practically useless. We have no way to configure objective rules to ensure random emails are not wrongly marked as important. The whole thing is left to the mercy of whatever unconfigurable heuristic/ML engine google is running on its servers.
The fact that notifications are linked to whether emails are marked as important makes it downright hostile.

Search in email hasn’t worked well in years… all ways finds marketing shit somehow
