I have a computer science / math education. I love creating software and I'm quite skilled at it. But, I'm also very interested in physics and astronomy, and I greatly admire the people who push those fields forward. I want to write tools for scientists in my free time, but I don't know what they need. How do I find out?
Maybe reach out to Arfon Smith, who does a lot of stuff at GitHub and is passionate about astronomy: https://www.stsci.edu/stsci-research/research-directory/arfo...
I recall talking to him years ago about tools for scientists and how GitHub could help.
