Ask HN: How can nonprofits recruit without Facebook ads?

3 pointsby slackrabout 3 years ago
According to the annual M+R Benchmarks Study, just 187 NGOs spent over €100m on online ads last year (https://mrbenchmarks.com/).
I’ve worked at NGOs for many years, and have always felt uneasy about our dependence on Facebook to recruit members online.
What are the ethical alternatives?
Is there, for example, an AdCouncil or nonprofit ad network for mastodon servers and matrix servers and the like?
