Linode will continue to operate as usual for the time being and the company says that Akamai has “no intention of changing what has made us successful.”
Right. How many times have we heard some variation of this after an acquisition? And how many times has it actually panned out that way? I'm pretty sure the answer to that second question is, to a first approximation, "zero".
I had recently started migrating all of my stuff off of Linode to a cheaper alternative anyway, and this just makes me that much more glad. I really don't see things with Linode getting better as a result of this acquisition. Does anybody? Other than the marketing-gobbledygook writer at Akamai?
