When I started out in dev, you could use Mysql, which then had no consistency checks and was known for losing data.<p>Or you could pay big for DB2, Oracle or MS Sql Server.<p>(Could be PG existed, but if so, no one had heard of them - which means the company wouldn't trust them)<p>Now, I take it for granted that my Postgres instance is (as far as my needs go) no less capable than any of the paid databases, comes free - and doesn't even try to spy on me (looking at you, Oracle).<p>A great thanks to the very, very talented and dedicated PG devs and team.
