Ask HN: How does the “Events from Gmail” to Google Calendar feature work?

3 pointsby onemiketwelveabout 3 years ago
I love this feature but maybe only 80% of services I interact with support it. (https://support.google.com/a/users/answer/9308934)
I'm assuming it's NLP and parsing of the email body by Google.
My two questions are, is there a way to flag when this isn't working for a service? IE it doesn't work with popular train booking sites like omio.com
Secondly, if we are running our own business with calendar events, what would we need to do to make sure our own events are also parsed?

I literally just now learned that this kind of feature exists. I use Calendly and now started to look into Cron (https://cron.com/) for this.
Increasingly I want to stop relying on google for essential services.
