I'm trying to incorporate more ways to get more rest and recovery/recharge into my daily life. What are some activities (ie hobbies, leisure) that you do regularly that help you get through the day/week etc?
It could be anything from sports/exercise, music/art/craft, games/puzzles, to talking with a friend, watching a comedy, etc. Anything relatively self-imposed is fair game.
And it would be super helpful if you could share some details on how you think the activity helps you rest/recharge etc.
Thanks so much in advance!
PS. I've asked similar Ask HN's recently but I could never figure out how to frame it in a way that gets the point across. Hope this one makes more sense.
Mountain biking. I ride alone more often than not, and basically always with earbuds in my ears, playing music. Not uncontroversial in the MTB community, but this is the way I like to experience it. To me, nothing beats being in the woods, on a bike, rocking out to some Slayer, Testament, Metallica, Iced Earth, etc.
Note, of course, that this is actually tiring from a physical perspective, in the short-term. But it's how I stay sane and it helps me clear my mind of all the random crap that builds up during the week from work and what-not. And over the long-term it is beneficial physically in terms of helping improve overall cardiovascular conditioning.
We travel a lot. Experiencing different cultures and landscapes never gets old for us. My wife will take her laptop because she’d miss her work, I won’t :)
