My name is Nuno Mota, and I am the solo Founder of Missing Link[1]. We are a small startup with the hefty goal of making the internet more private (one device at a time), and the Guardian will be our first official product. As of now, we have an early functional prototype of the device, and we will release a short demo alongside our upcoming crowdfunding campaign. I started developing the Guardian about a year ago, in my spare time, because I felt quite uncomfortable with all my credentials stored on "the cloud". I still wanted to have unique logins for all my accounts, but my memory isn't good enough to memorize 87 of these... And I am probably already forgetting a few. There are great self-hosted Software options[2], but setting everything up for the sole purpose of a password manager seemed quite the overkill. Plus, a Hardware password manager can be made to work with most devices out-of-the-box without any installed Software (by mimicking an HID device), and will remain completely offline when not in use. By the time it gets released, the Guardian should also support two-factor authentication (via NFC and TOTP) and other sets of more secure protocols (like FIDO/FIDO2).
Our goal for the crowdfunding campaign is to increase our runway, of course, and all contributions will be very welcome. However, I am purposefully sharing the project here before it goes live. I want to create a product people genuinely want to use, and whether or not it becomes a long-term success will heavily depend on the feedback we get. So, let me know what you think! I will be around to answer any questions/suggestions you might have, and it doesn't matter how small they are.
[1] https://missinglink.technology/
