Ask HN: Who is working on the African market?

4 pointsby possiblelionalmost 3 years ago
Hey all!
One topic I've seen quite neglected in the general Silicon Valley/Startup scene is the African market. Google tells me some companies, but I'd love to hear from founders/PMs/developers who have entered that market and what your biggest takeaways are!
full disclosure: I'm a startup founder who decided to take crack at the African market and somehow (by chance) found a niche and got 400k users in a year. However this was, as said luck, and I've got no idea about how to move on next. Hence this post.

Hi. What do you mean by the African market? Africa is quite big and countries have their differences.
Congratulations on your users. I'm in Algiers, Algeria. Feel free to send me an email in case you have questions. I'll answer to the best of my abilities.

We are building a container/machine hosting provider for the East African market at KwaWingu.com. We have a core group of dedicated users at the moment who we are growing with, and eventually we aim to support e.g. M-PESA payments given the high adoption of mobile money in the region.
