The crypto landscape never had any real stated goals that I can determine, beyond pipe dreams. Its founder Satoshi abandoned it in 2011. It's evident that blockchains do not solve any real problems, and I'm glad more people are realizing this. "Decentralization" is not a goal unto itself. Destroying the institutions/banks is not a goal either; when you tear it all down and rebuild your new financial system, you'll want to have similar institutions that serve the same purpose. If crypto people feel they have been defrauded by banks, I have no idea what they're trying to accomplish by building another system that has no fraud protections whatsoever. The most concrete answers I have ever gotten are along the lines of "somebody will build that into a smart contract and then arbitrate disputes through a centralized service, possibly run by the government" at which point they have gone full circle, and then there is really no reason to use blockchains anymore.
