On June 23, 2021, Chipotle announced "Race to Rewards" contest, a top down retro racing game where players had 48 hours to try and get the highest score playing. There were various prizes in the top 10 list, with #1 being a Tesla Model 3.
The racing game was mainly one of endurance, the longer a player could last without crashing, the greater their chances of getting higher score. It didn't take long for some players to write scripts to keep their car going for hours, automatically detecting obstacles and switching lanes. Nowhere in the contest rules was this or any kind of scripted play explicitly forbidden.
Despite this, the contest period came and went, and Chipotle has never made an official announcement on any winners for the top 10 prizes, including the Model 3.
Several media outlets reported on the contest when it was launched. Apparently none of them followed up on the winners.
Rules are at: https://racetorewards.com/?overlay=rules
You'll note a few interesting things:
1) Scripts may not have been explicitly forbidden, but they certainly were implicitly a deal-breaker on winning: "Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who is found to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest..."
2) There are scenarios in which they did not need to award prizes, mostly surrounding inability to verify winners. You'll note liberal use of the word "may", and not "must" when outlining how they find the winners to award prizes.
3) There was no obligation in those rules to announce results.
4) There was a way to request a winners list, but there was a deadline on it.
In short, they may have simply seen that scripts wrecked the contest and had enough wiggle room in the rules to just bail on it and move on. Or, maybe they did quietly send some awards out and just did not market the event. Hard to say for sure at this point unless you find someone who actually worked on the event.
If you care enough about this, read the contest rules.
You have two options:
1. Contact the person at the bottom of this page and ask:
https://newsroom.chipotle.com/2021-06-22-Chipotle-Launches-R...
2. Alternatively, perform step #12 in this document to see who won:
https://racetorewards.com/?overlay=rules
In a sweepstakes the game is irrelevant.
If you have a copy of the game rules you can usually find a contact to get a list of winners and if you’re really motivated you can complain to your State Attorney General.
