Working parents are having a rough summer. Some co-workers don’t want to hear

As someone who sided with the parents and feels it’s our responsibility to care for all children and raise them well, whether we are parents or not - I still think the saddest piece is that people are still not having honest heart to hearts in their companies about these vital issues. I happen to believe that many parents have a lot to offer our companies. By taking care of them and listening to their needs we can better retain them. Likewise single people without kids have needs too. If we take care of then and listen well we can retain them better. But hopefully not every aspiration must be motivated by personal success. Hopefully there’s some inherent value in a thriving community too .

There will be some parents who have genuinely dire situations and have bad colleagues lacking empathy. There will also be parents who will use the excuse of purported childcare to shift their workload on childless colleagues.
And as usual, the majority of cases will be somewhere in the middle with reasonable situations like some parents having genuine difficulties where their colleagues pitch in with accommodations and parents return that favor in some kind. But of course no one wants to publish that because that probably won't generate clicks.

I had to raise my younger brothers instead of getting to be a kid myself because my parents were workaholics and fucking useless at home, so I haven't bothered to have children of my own because I've done my time. I'm not going to defer my vacation or take on extra work because of parents who try and fail miserably to "have it all". If that means the management doesn't have enough hands on deck, boo fuckin' hoo. Push me hard enough and I won't come back from my vacation; I'll just ghost your asses and get a better job elsewhere.
If it ain't my kid, it ain't my problem.
