Lift controllers date from the 1920's. I'd consider them embedded systems.

Where does the &quot;1960&quot; come from? Wikipedia lists August 1966 as when the AGC was introduced.<p>AGC was preceded by many other digital guidance computers, including those for the Minuteman I, the Minuteman II, and Gemini.

It might depend on your definition of &quot;system&quot;. WW II battleships had electro-mechanical computers for fire control.
