In my experience, people didn't need saving so much as they needed frank, constructive communication about where they are and where they're going, and in a timely fashion.<p>Sure, you can't magically make people better, but, as management, you can set them up to be exposed to positive influences with alternative work arrangements and learning opportunities with the power available to you. You can also engage in a positive dialogue with them so they're aware of what is happening and can take steps on their own too, if they like.
