Interesting but I can't see me doing this anytime soon. These era shields are still very powerful and useful systems and I use mine everyday. There's some twiddly features the newest versions have but every time is see another set top box they just make me groan.
2017 shield, still does 4k and I stream massive files from my Nas for playback with no glitches. I use the remote steam play, I futz with the interface, tie it in to Hyperion for ambient lighting. Best of all I can side load apps to make it do exactly what I want without being locked in. If I want root for even more I can do or I can get the development images they publish.
Rokus, apple tv, etc... No thank you. For a little Linux box I'd prefer a latte panda.
Nice. I need to try this out. My shed has been relegated to storage after getting a 4k Apple TV and the Xbox one s... android tv just annoys me... being able to repurpose it as maybe a desktop would be handy.
