But I'm guessing Apple wasn't as concerned about gov't contracts as Microsoft would be.
I wonder if it's a similar reason Microsoft Windows doesn't support emoji flags.<p>Although Taiwan having a flag shouldn't be controversial when Hong Kong and Jersey also have flags.

I think a trick might be to:<p>- Go with geographic rather than political regions where possible<p>- For political regions, have an alternative motive (e.g. traditional versus simplified characters for Taiwan versus Mainland China), and expressing that in a non-political way. Potentially, add a disclaimer.
