I don't think google cares, but "open source leadership" with its accute lack of ABI stability and friendlyness to game binaries did really hurt valve. To a point, their are now making an ABI stable interface layer... which is actually windoz (the massive garbage software which is proton).<p>In the end, they are more helping microsoft than anybody else.
