Ask HN: Do your all-company meetings talk about the technical side of the house?

2 pointsby ribfeastalmost 3 years ago
We have a quarterly series of "state of the company"-type meetings, and I realized that we have never talked about what the developers have accomplished. Usually, it's just sales and marketing, with kudos going out to people on those teams.
The company is a tech scale-up with about 2/3 of the workforce being developers.
Is this common?

We have an "all-hands" meeting monthly at my current employer. The head of the IT department speaks every time about what we've accomplished and what we plan to accomplish. Of course, our business is primarily selling subscriptions to a web site, so it is plain as day that what developers accomplish matters for the bottom line.
Before that I've worked at technology-oriented companies and the situation was the same. I think I have to go back to 2005 or 2006 to remember working at a place where the salespeople were full of themselves and outright dismissive of the contribution of the tech people.
