I think human nature when something is young and exciting and offers possibility is to remember the beginning especially vividly since it is "new". Those moments always stand out to you later in the years when you have one of those "Holy shit, my life is now different because of this" instances.<p>The basic point is heard, though. When the net become more professional, it drained out all the "can do" from those who maybe were not stack (coldfusion, pearl, php?) experts. In the meantime, we have become a lot more distrusting of one another, mostly due to money.<p>What I notice and miss is the attention span to read what are "longer thoughts" and well-crafted writing which I think fosters better communication. Boring blogs can bring back writing partially to what it is meant to be--usually something that requires some kind of discipline rather like watching a flower at dawn slowly open its petals.
