Ask HN: Are you getting recommended YouTube videos with low view counts?

7 pointsby ratio11almost 3 years ago
I've started noticing a lot more YouTube videos recommended on the sidebar with very low view counts. Some have only a dozen views. These are being recommended while I watch popular generic videos, nothing niche. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm wondering if YouTube is changing their recommendations algorithm to rival the way TikTok propels new creators/videos.

I strongly notice the other way around. There seems to be much more high view count content for me including the new prominently featured tiktok clone. As a coach I watch fairly niche sports content and really could not care about a 6 million view yoga soft porn clip.

No, but I regularly notice recommendations on extremely random subjects I have recently mentioned out loud. No schizo.

Yes, with topics that don't seem related to what I usually watch. Also noticed this quite recently.

I found some nice music from it. Reminds me of using YouTube a long time ago.

I’ve noted that, and I get recommendations for videos from many years ago.
