I&#x27;d like to know the thoughts of Stallman on Smalltalk. Curious to know what were the odds for an alternative timeline where the free software movement released a competitive open source Smalltalk back in the 80s.

The free source is supplemented or complemented by open source for a reason. This debate should be much documented than for the future kids to guess from posting in web archive and book hard to get.
