Ask HN: Setting up Architecture Review process for large teams

2 pointsby eagleheadover 2 years ago
What are some of the best practices that you have used to help ensure different teams within your organization are well equipped with their architectural decisions.
We have one Engineering Fellow that wants to ensure that engineers in all 4 teams across the company are well equipped to get feedback on their architectural decisions.
For now we are just holding office hours but as the teams grow this is becoming a challenge.
So wondering how others are setting this up.
For reference: each team is about 10-20 engineers.

For one have well documented standards for architecture. 2nd have a well documented checklists against which engineers can self check. finally a documented process and build it out in a tool where engineers submit and understand where their review is in the process. finally make sure you set up limits when a solution can go into production using this tool.
FYI: I am a formal process architect for a fortune 50 enterprise with over 40K employees.
Your process agility/ control points will depend on size of your organization and control you wish to exert on those teams. You have to continually monitor process metrics and adjust for your objectives, and as the organization grows.
The above approach is overly simplistic of course, but I hope it will get you set in the right direction.
BTW - I am looking for opportunities and available for advisory services on both short and long term basis. Feel free to reach out. My contact info should be in my profile.
