Ask HN: Whose Fault, Apple or Spotify?

3 pointsby johnnypangsover 2 years ago
I got an email saying the following but it struck me as strange that Spotify is blaming Apple for breaking their app with an OS update. Here’s what Spotify sent:
> Apple WatchOS 9 introduces a bug that will cause Spotify streaming on the Apple Watch to stop working. We encourage Spotify Apple Watch users to not install the WatchOS 9 update until Apple implements a fix. Users already affected can instead download their content to their Apple Watch and listen offline or stream from their phones.

When I got my Apple Watch I was really disappointed at Spotify for not having streaming, then I learned that Apple kept the APIs private and only Apple Music allowed streaming.
When finally Apple relased the feature for third parties, Spotify was really slow at implementing it. What should have been a couple months max took like a year or so...
I would really like to know who is responsible here.

You know, 20 years ago we would have blamed Apple for implimenting a breaking change on the OS-level. Nowadays we shake our fist at Spotify for not fixing bugs before they happen...

What does Apple have to say about this, I wonder.
