It's sad to see Section 230- which protects all websites & grants them the basic escape of liability for the bad things their users post- be manipulated & lied about by both major parties. Both sides are deranged & out of touch.
Sad scoring of political points by meddling with one of the only laws on the books that has allowed any measure of freedom of speech whatsoever on the internet. It's a hotbutton issue, but pointing at big tech & saying you're going to do something (but actually you're bashing America in the face) is no classier than wrecking the social safety net over "welfare queens": another way to titillate & excite, to make low & cowardly arguments about the very worst, but ignore the 99.9999% of use. This is such an issue of the day, but screwing with 230 is not where we need to go. And god damn is it so fragging tacky & cheap.
> Biden was introduced by Susan Bro, mother of Heather Heyer, who was killed during an August 2017 white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. "Her murder resonated around the world, but the hate did not begin or end there," Bro said.
Not quite as resonant was the murder of Jessica Doty Whitaker [1], or the victims of Kori Ali Muhammad [2], the injured in the NY subway attack [3], or the killed in the Waukesha parade attack [4].
By pure coincidence, no such cases were so much as alluded to in this speech. But, since this is coincidence, the situation may well be reversed in the next speech Biden gives on hate. Or if not that one, then the one after it.
Because focusing on crimes committed by only one group, and ignoring crimes committed against that group, is something one would expect from hate-peddling tabloids, or 3rd world dictators getting ready for ethnic cleansing, and is certainly not something the leader of the free world would ever stoop to.
[1] Indiana woman shot, killed after argument with Black Lives Matter supporters - https://www.foxnews.com/us/indiana-woman-shot-killed-argumen...
[2] We’ve all heard the phrase “an eye for an eye,” and after enduring a lifetime of racism, that was the exact justification that accused killer Kori Ali Muhammad gave authorities for his decision to allegedly murder four people in 2017. - https://www.theroot.com/fresno-man-accused-of-four-murders-a...
[3] James had posted, "O black Jesus, please kill all the whiteys" on social media. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_New_York_City_Subway_atta...
[4] Brooks had a history of social media posts advocating for violence against white people and Jews. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waukesha_Christmas_parade_atta...
