Ask HN: What to Do with Lanyards from Conferences?

7 pointsby zufallsheldover 2 years ago
I have been to some tech conferences in the last years and collected some lanyards and badges. While I think it would be cool to create a collage of the badges, I'm not sure what to do with all these lanyards. Any ideas?

I guess that you could cut them above the join and see whether they work as shoelaces. That could be a fashion statement of sorts--high-top sneakers with recycled-lanyard shoelaces of different colors.

Options:
1) Throw them in the garbage as soon as the final session is over.
2) Prepare for your appearance on "Hoarders".
3) There is no third option.

Store them somewhere for a decade. Auction them somewhere. Enjoy the money.

I have 2 nice leather ones I got from a friend that worked in the leather industry (they gave them out at tradeshows). I keep them and reuse them at all the shows/conferences I go to. I skip even taking the lanyards given out with the badge.

Take pictures, convert them into NFTs, sell them as either the image or the physical item. One of them gets destroyed, the other goes to the highest bidder.

I use them as keychains. I still think lanyard make bette rkeychains than keychains, since it makes it more visible but still relatively portable.

Cut them to 6 to 8 inches long then sew them together as a scarf ?

replace the lanyard of your work badge if you wear one and then throw the others away.
