Migrant death data is relatively hard to pin down, and is spread across a number of different datasets. Some government, some by NGOs. To better understand the scope of the tragedy, I put together a few map visualizations based on data aggregated from The Missing Migrants Project and combined it with data from the Arizona OpenGIS initiative for Deceased Migrants.
While this isn't fully comprehensive, it does give a visual understanding of the scope of this tragedy over the last few years. I was particularly shocked by the prevalence of Drowning while crossing the Rio Grande. Absolutely horrible.<p>If anyone knows of additional reputable datasets for migrant deaths, I'd love to improve the thoroughness of these visualizations. It's frustrating this data isn't as transparent or centralized as it should be.
