Over a month ago HN was notified [1] that the Dillo web browser's domain had expired, and that it was for sale.
I sent an email to the contact on page linked in the item, and offered to buy the domain, and made it clear that I'm buying it to give it back to the Dillo project. Their asking price was way out or my reach, but I offered to pay $1200, and showed my intentions were pure by showing that I had done something similar with svelte.io domain. I also offered to include their, or their company's name, when announcing the return of the domain to the project.
To my surprise, their response was

I have decided not to sell the domain, and keep it. I have reuploaded the original site from WayBackMachine, ...

With that, the dillo.org domain is back online, serving its original purpose, at least as of now. It has been over a month since that response, and the dillo.org website still shows the Project's pages; so I don't have any reason believe the domain will be used for anything else anytime soon.
[1] https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32448104
