I always thought I had difficulty in approaching mathematical thinking and approaches, labeled as "math deficient". I re-approached mathematics through functional linguistics and have been rather successful in reframing and understanding both logic and functional mathematics and concepts. This may be an approach that doesn't work for everyone as I have always had a higher aptitude for language especially as a bilingual individual. I found much of my deficiencies related to math were related to traditional teaching approaches and my own "mistranslation" of mathematical terms and concepts from my native German, relative to functional conjugation. For example 42 in German directly translates to English as four and twenty out of context. In a sense I retrained or rather reframed my approach through linguistics and have found it has bolstered my math ability as well as my approach to learning other languages etc.
