I would say yes, but not for the reasons written in this article. Yes because there is no agreement in the industry about what constitutes good design. Yes because in the last 10 years, new practitioners don't know--much less follow--the design principles based on decades of research on human information processing. Yes because people trained to design chairs or posters are now "designing" human-computer communication systems. Yes because information architecture is no longer considered; objects are sprayed into applications like paint from an artist's gun, with no thought given to their underlying grammar (objects, actions, characteristics). Yes because Americans, at least, are no longer taught English grammar and don't even know the parts of speech that could help them identify said objects, actions, and characteristics. For all of these reasons, yes--the industry is a shitshow.
