The vast majority of programmers I know have some common characteristics.<p>They come from stable upper-middle class homes. They are afforded the opportunity to practice diligently at a young age with the proper technology. Often have a parent in the technology sector and/or interested peers groups in which to learn from.<p>Very very very few are low-income self learners who pursued and persisted in their interests.<p>"Learn to code" is a low-key flex statement intent on intimidating people. Because, it's hard as fuck if you're over 25 and never touched the terminal.
