Ask HN: Why do you still live in the Bay Area?

Access to nature, some of the best food in the country, access to the freshest produce, scuba diving, surfing, redwoods, walkable city, educated population, interesting people, consistent non-intrusive weather, wine country, etc.
I frequently visit NYC and the homeless population there is more threatening, and the shit in the street is roughly on par, so I’m not really sure where else people would recommend without extreme lifestyle shift.

I left the bay area. Too expensive, too homogeneous (male engineers everywhere), need a car for everything...
I moved to Europe and work remotely.

I’ll bite.
1. Access to tech campus and seeing people in person. 2. Access to plenty of tech jobs (if layed off) and in person vs remote isn’t of much consequence.
If remote work is here to stay 2023 and onward I likely won’t be here in 2024.

I’m about to move there. Got a job at a startup that seems fun. Just graduated, so I’m a bit unwise. But, my first job was boring and I couldn’t deal with that.
